How to Work in Social Groups
by Contributing Writer
-
Step 1
Have an open mind. It is important to go into any social situation with an open mind. This will allow you to hear other ideas and carefully consider them. It will also allow you to work more efficiently.
-
Step 2
Be willing to compromise. If someone has a good idea, accept it, even if you think your idea is better. Try to find a middle ground so certain parts of both ideas can be used.
-
Step 3
Communicate effectively. Communication is key when trying to work efficiently with a group of people. If you can convey your ideas properly, it will result in an increase of productivity.
-
Step 4
Don't assume. There are a few things you should never assume when working in a group setting. The main thing to avoid doing is to think that your ideas are any better than the ideas brought forth by your colleagues. Give others a chance to voice their opinions.

Step 5
Pull your own weight. No one likes a slacker. To earn the respect of the people you're working with, be responsible for your own workload. Also, don't just do the minimal amount of work to get by. Finish your tasks and then move on and ask others if they need help in any other areas.
