The Best Way to Sell Candy for a Fundraiser

by Heather Marlman
  • Overview

Find the best way to sell candy to raise money for your cause or organization. Increase the profits generated from your candy fundraiser by using all of the resources you have available to sell your candy products. Be aware of solicitation rules that may apply that would prevent you from selling your fundraiser candy at some locations.
  • Local businesses

Local businesses are often willing to help assist you in your fundraising event. Contact businesses near your organization and ask permission to set up a small stand outside. Make members of your organization available to handle the candy sales, and provide those who are purchasing candy additional information about your cause or organization. Create posters that clearly announce what the organization is and what you are holding the fundraiser for in order to generate more sales from your stand.

  • Schedule fundraisers

If possible, schedule your candy fundraiser to coincide with a local event that may help to promote the profits from your fundraiser. Events such as craft shows, street fairs, or other large events in your area that generate a large crowd can help to increase the sales from your candy fundraiser. Rent a booth at the local event and pass out information about your organization. Fundraisers being held for school programs or clubs should be scheduled off sequence from other fundraisers held within the same school. Scheduling fundraisers so that they run at different times will help to increase the sales generated.
  • Free publicity

Contact your local newspaper to alert them of your candy fundraiser and ask them to do a feature story on your organization and the cause you are raising money for or provide them with a press release that lists the details of your fundraising event. Local newspapers may also provide free advertising for non-profit organizations that will announce the fundraiser and provide a list of locations where candy can be purchased.
