How to Use Windows XP Drivers on a Vista System

Overview
Microsoft's Vista operating system has a lot of compatibility issues with older software programs and their drivers. Often Vista doesn't recognize their drivers or the drivers won't work properly in Vista. Fortunately, Vista has a built-in compatibility program that will allow you to manually change a program's driver to the older Windows XP version.

Step 1
Click the "Start" menu.

Click on "All Programs."

Right-click on the program that you want to run using a XP driver.

Click "Properties."

Click the "Compatibility tab."

Check "Run this program in compatibility mode with Windows XP."

Click "OK." The program will now run using a Windows XP driver.

- You can also use the Vista Compatibility Program to run drivers as old as Windows 95. Use the pull-down menu under the Compatibility tab to find older driver options.
