How to Use Front Page Templates

by Anthony Smith
  • Overview

Microsoft FrontPage software was designed to make put both web page design and publishing within reach of most computer users via a point and click interface. Microsoft adds to this approach by providing ready-made templates for single web pages and multiple page web sites. By taking advantage of work already done by experts, users can add complex elements to their site that they cannot create themselves.

  • Step 1

Open FrontPage and click on the "File" command at the top of the window.
  • Step 2

Select "New" from the dropdown menu, then look to the "New" pane that opens on the right side of the FrontPage window.
  • Step 3

Click on "More Page Templates" from underneath the New Page heading at the top of the New pane if you only need a single page template. A "Page Templates" dialog box will open. Select a template by double-clicking its icon.
  • Step 4

Enter the appropriate information for your specific application into the pre-formatted areas. For example, an About Me page template will have areas for introductory text, links for Interests and a Photo Gallery.
  • Step 5

Click on "More Web Site Templates" from underneath the New Web Site heading at the top of the New pane if you need a template for a web site with multiple pages. Select a template by double-clicking on its icon when the Web Site Templates dialog box opens.
  • Step 6

Double-click on any of the web site template pages to open them. You may then enter your own information in the areas provided, just as you did in Step 4.
  • Step 7

    Name and save the files.
