How to Unlock a Motorola I855E Phone for Free

  • Overview

Like all cell phones, for the Motorola I855E to work it must be connected to a network provider. For the I855E to work on other networks, it must be "unlocked." Unlocking the phone means removing the SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card the provider puts in the phone, adding a new one from the new provider and entering a code specific to the I855E that will tell the phone to accept the new network.

  • Step 1

Request the phone's IMEI code by contacting the provider's customer service. If a customer for at least a few months the provider will send the IMEI code, or the code identifying the specific phone, in a few days.
  • Step 2

Turn off the I855E. Remove the original provider's SIM card, which is located near the battery. Insert the new provider's SIM card.
  • Step 3

Turn the I855E back on. The phone will detect the new card and ask for the IMEI code. Enter the code. Now the phone will operate using the new network.

  • Sometimes you will have to pay for an unlock code. After entering an unlock code and accessing a new network, not all of the phone's original features will work. The phone might be able to make calls but not go online, for example. This is due to the differences in data packages providers offer. Before unlocking the I855E research how the use of another network will effect the phone.
