Overview
Turning a TV into a computer monitor is an excellent way to not only save money by having a two in one device, but also a superb way to have a large display. Most modern televisions allow for this connection directly from a computer. If your television is an older set, then there is some hardware you can purchase to be able to connect your computer to it.

Connecting to the TV
-
Step 1
Look for a VGA port. If you have one, then proceed to step 2. If your television is an older set lacking this port, proceed to step 3.
-
Step 2
Attach the VGA cable to the TV just as you would to a regular computer monitor. The computer will automatically detect the display, and install the drivers. You will need to read the television's owner's manual to understand the settings to tune the television to the VGA input port.
-
Step 3
Connect your VGA converter box to the television by composite video, or S-video. This will depend on what you choose, and what connections your TV has.
-
Step 4
Connect the computer to the converter box.
-
Step 5
Turn your TV to the appropriate input channel for video in. Your computer should now be on the television display
