About Traveling to Puerto Rico
The tropical islands of Puerto Rico are rapidly becoming one of the world's favorite playgrounds. With sunny skies, sandy beaches, exotic vegetation and easy access to major U.S. cities, it is easy to see its appeal.
-
Entry
For citizens of the United States, a passport is not required to enter Puerto Rico, though a government issued photo ID, such as a driver's license, is required for basic identification purposes.
-
Foreign Visitors
For those who are not residents of the United States, the requirements for entry into Puerto Rico are exactly the same as they are for anyone hoping to enter the United States.
-
Arrivals
All international flights are routed through the main airport in the capital city of San Juan. Flights from the United States are not considered international and may land at San Juan or may be routed through smaller venues.
-
Connections
The San Juan Airport offers numerous connections and reasonable rates to most other islands in the region. Luggage carts are free in the international terminal and porters stand at the ready in both the international and domestic terminals to assist travelers with their bags.
-
San Juan
If the capital city is your Puerto Rican destination, there are numerous taxis waiting near the airport's exit. Official taxis are white with Taxi Turistico on the door. They have set rates for travel between most major tourist attractions.
