Overview
Transferring files from one computer to another using a thumb drive, also known as a flash drive, can be a simple and fruitful process. Thumb drives provide a simple and portable means of moving files from PC to PC.
-
Insertion of Thumb Drive
The first step in the process of transferring files using a thumb drive is the insertion of the thumb drive into a USB port. On most computers, the USB ports can be easily located on the front with more often on the back.
-
Saving
After the thumb drive has been inserted into the computer, the files must be saved to it. Selecting the files and saving them to the thumb drive will have it ready for transfer.
-
Transportation of Thumb Drive
Upon removing the thumb drive with the files on it, it can then be transported to the other PC. During this stage it is imperative that the flash drive not be lost or damaged.
-
Transfer
Once the thumb drive has had the files saved to it and has been transported to the PC needing the files, the transfer can begin. Upon inserting the thumb drive, an alert should appear informing the user that the PC detects a USB device. Clicking the icon to bring up the files and saving them to the hard drive or desktop is all that is required to move the files.
-
Warning
Before removing a thumb drive from a computer, it is imperative that the icon allowing for the safe removal of the hard drive is clicked. Only once it has been clicked and the computer shows that removal is safe can the thumb drive be removed from the computer without risk of losing files.
