All Hair Types
Certain behaviors will benefit hair of any type. Drink lots of water. Hydrated hair is healthier, shinier and more manageable.
Protein strengthens hair, which means fish, milk, poultry and white meats should be a part of every diet. Replace refined sugar with nature's own fruits and juices. Cut down on fats that make hair dull and lifeless.
Use supplements if insufficient amounts of the following are found in your diet. Copper can help maintain hair color. Iron moves oxygen throughout the hair shaft. Zinc builds healthy protein. Vitamin A supports healthy skin, which in turn allows the scalp to produce healthier hair. Vitamin B and C boost circulation, which is vital for hair growth.
Maintain a healthy lifestyle. Exercise regularly and get rid of bad habits like drinking alcohol or smoking.
Shampoo three times a week unless your hair is oily. Wet it thoroughly before application. A quarter size dollop of mild shampoo works best. To eliminate product buildup, add a teaspoon of baking soda to clarifying. Rinse thoroughly with cool water before conditioning. If hair is dry or damaged, deep condition once a week.
Towel dry before styling with a blow dryer. Never brush wet hair. Instead, use a wide tooth comb, pick or your fingers. Avoid overuse of heated styling tools and avoid blow drying the hair completely dry to avoid damage.

Dry Hair
Dry hair requires products that hydrate and moisturize. Chemical treatments like hair colors or permanents can further damage dry hair, so they should be avoided. If heated styling tools must be used, it should be done in conjunction with a protective product specifically designed to protect hair from heat. Choose styling products with SPF protection against the sun and wear a hat when sun exposure will be lengthy.
Use vitamin E or safflower oil to put moisture back into the hair. Place a couple of drops in your hair, working it into the ends of the hair first, then moving up toward the scalp.

Oily
Wash oily hair more often. Only use products made for that hair type. Never over condition hair; every other shampoo is sufficient. Even then, apply it only to ends of the hair.
If the hair gets too oily during the day, add a bit of talcum powder to the roots to dry up excess oil.
