About Teacup Yorkshire Terriers

  • Overview

Teacup Yorkshire Terriers, weighing in at about two to five pounds, are an extra small variation of the Yorkshire Terrier Breed. They have many of the same characteristics of their larger counterparts, but have been bred for a delicate build.
  • Appearance

Teacup Yorkshire Terriers have a fine build with a long and silky coat. They are usually black and tan in color.

  • Temperament

According to DogBreedInfo.com, Yorkies are very loyal and clever, but can become stubborn and yappy without firm guidance from their owners.
  • Care

Yorkies are well suited to an indoor life, but they require a daily walk for their exercise needs. They should be fed a high quality kibble formulated specially for small dogs.
  • Grooming

Because of their long coats, Teacups will need daily brushing and a trip to the groomer's every 4 to 6 weeks.
  • Health Issues

Hypoglycemia or low blood sugar is a health issue in Yorkies. Often, they will need their baby teeth removed by a veterinarian as well. Because of their size, Teacups will need to see a veterinarian at any signs of illness.
  • Warnings

According to ElvisYorkshireTerrier.com, select a reputable breeder to avoid supporting puppy mills and to ensure that you purchase a healthy Yorkie.
