Overview
Learning how to ski can be a fun and rewarding experience for children of all ages. When provided with patience and enthusiasm, learning how to ski can build a child's self-esteem and lead to a lifetime of fun, fitness and health.

Step 1
Make sure that your group of kids wear proper winter outerwear, such as warm mittens, a ski jacket, snow pants and a helmet or a warm hat. Children should also wear sunscreen.
-
Step 2
Have the children get used to being in the snow with their skis and boots. Walking around in ski gear takes some getting used to, so children should have the opportunity to get comfortable wearing their ski equipment and adjust to the outdoor temperature.
-
Step 3
Show your students the proper posture and movements for skiing. Tell them to bend their knees and have them practice making turns. Use training aids such as wedge locks and ski harnesses to help your students feel more comfortable and secure on the slopes. Wedge locks keep skis in the correct position and will teach the students the correct way to position their skis.
-
Step 4
Be patient and enthusiastic. Encourage your students to practice their movements over and over again and let them know that it's OK to fall down. Give positive feedback and offer words of encouragement. If possible, have your students practice for an entire week. Practicing for several days in a row will help your students become more confident in their skiing abilities.
-
Step 5
Enroll them in ski lessons. Most ski resorts offer lessons for all ages and ability levels. In a matter of 3 or 4 days, your children will learn the basics of skiing and will have the opportunity to meet other children with an interest in skiing.
