Overview
A stroke is the blocking of the blood supply to the brain. A stroke can have varying levels of severity, but all strokes are considered emergencies. This is why it's critical to know the signs of a stroke and act quickly.

Cause of Ischemic Stroke
Ischemic strokes are caused by a buildup of plaque in the arteries.

Cause of Hemorrhagic Stroke
Hemorrhagic or bleeding strokes are caused by a break or lean in a blood vessel.

Cause of TIA or Ministroke
Transient ischemic attacks or TIA are caused by a blood clot to a part of the brain.

Symptom of Stroke: Balance Loss or Dizziness
Feeling dizzy or losing balance is a sign of stroke.

Slurred speech and other difficulties with speaking are symptoms of stroke.
