Stopping Drug Addiction

Overview
The first step to recovery is recognizing your drug problem. Admitting an addiction is just as hard--if not harder--than stopping your drug addiction. Not every form of addiction treatment works for everyone, thus there are several approaches you can choose from to help you on your path toward recovery.
-
-
Step 1
Check into an inpatient drug treatment facility. Most inpatient rehabilitation programs consist of a 28- to 45-day stay at the facility.
-
Step 2
Speak to a drug counselor. These licensed professionals are compassionate, knowledgeable and discreet. A drug counselor can help you develop a long-term plan to stop your drug addiction.
-
Step 3
Leave the past behind. It may be difficult to leave your old friends behind, but their drug addictions will hinder your recovery process.
-
Step 4
Join a drug addiction support group (see Resources below). Meet with local members of your community who have struggled with their own addictions. The road to recovery is a long one; help yourself and other addicts achieve recovery.
