Spray on Acne Treatment

by Betsey Jolley
  • Overview

Salicylic acid is one of the most common acne treatments recommended by dermatologists. There are a myriad of formulations available on the market. Spray-on acne treatment with salicylic acid has been developed primarily for treating body acne.
  • Causes

Body acne is typically caused by bacteria in the pores. Not showering post-workout or wearing constricting clothes while working out can cause or exacerbate the problem. The salicylic acid in the spray-on acne treatment can help kill bacteria and unclog pores.

  • Options

Body acne spray is particularly helpful in hard-to-reach areas. Look for a 360-degree spray that sprays in multiple directions. A number of companies sell acne treatment sprays, such as Clinique, Murad and Nature's Cure.
  • Instructions

Apply to cleansed skin to treat, clear and prevent acne. Use once daily for initial treatment. To use on your face, spray onto a cotton ball and apply, avoiding the eye area.
  • Warnings

Excessive drying of the skin may occur. Allow skin to adjust by using every other day or one time daily, and then increase to two or three times daily. Don't spray directly on face; avoid contact with eyes.
  • Monitor

If acne persists for several weeks after treatment, or if severe drying or peeling occurs, consult with a physician or dermatologist.
