Maybe you're fiance refuses to marry you until you quit smoking. Then a "cold turkey" plan might be in your future. Here are some tips to make the experience less painful:
- Smoke until Friday, and then begin quit on Saturday. It can be tough to quit during the stress of a mid-week work/school schedule.
- Indulge in other things you like. Keep yourself distracted.
- When you want a cigarette, take a deep breath and try to take a nap.
- Avoid situations that frustrate you-you won't deal with frustration very well.
- Avoid any place where people will be smoking.
- Call people whom you know well enough to impose upon and complain to them about how lousy you feel.
- Keep a lot of your favorite non-alcoholic drinks on hand. You will probably feel very thirsty, you'll want to replace the oral gratification of cigarettes with something, and drinking fluids helps to flush the nicotine out of your system faster.
- If you think that you have to eat something to keep your mouth busy, that's fine. At least make it healthy, though.
- Exercise. It'll help you burn off the frustration, and you'll associate your lack of smoking with your new healthy lifestyle.
