How to Request FHA Information

by Leslie Freeland
  • Overview

The Federal Housing Administration (FHA) insures mortgage loans to protect approved lenders from homeowners defaulting on loans. This relaxes home loan qualifications, increasing the percentage of eligible homeowners. Homeowners pay the cost of the insurance, generally added to the loan payment. The insurance payments fund the FHA, and its self-sufficiency has ensured its success. The FHA has insured more than 34 million properties and continues to promote ownership by making financing possible for would-be homeowners.
