How to Remove Sand From Hardwood Floors

    Abrasive materials like sand detrimental to the finish layer on hardwood floors. It is wise to remove any dirt and sand from hardwood flooring as soon as possible so the flooring is not scarred or damaged. Sand can be hard to contain, but the proper cleaning methods will have it up in no time.
 
  • Step 1

    Sweep the sand up into a small pile with a broom. Make sure to sweep all the corners as sand has a tendency to travel easily. Sweep the dust pile into a dust pan.
  • Step 2

    Run a vacuum over the hardwood flooring to pick up any remaining dirt and sand that the broom left behind.
  • Step 3

    Mop the hardwood floor with a cleaner formulated for hardwood flooring and a mop that is made of a spongy, microfiber or terry cloth material so it will not scratch the flooring surface.
  • Step 4

    Allow the floor to air dry completely before walking on the cleaned area.
