How to Refill Inkjet Printers

by Art Corvelay
  • Overview

An inkjet printer is a computer printer that prints a reproduction of a digital image. There are two major types of inkjet printers: tri-color and quad-color printers. Tri-color printers use three major colors: cyan, magenta and yellow. Quad-color printers, on the other hand, use cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (which stands for pure black). Refilling inkjet printers involves replacing old printer cartridges with new cartridges.

  • Step 1

Open the front panel of your inkjet printer to locate the inkjet cartridges in your printer.
  • Step 2

Release the inkjet cartridge lever by pressing down on it. The cartridges will spring free. Remove both cartridges.
  • Step 3

Open the replacement cartridge and insert the cartridge into the ink cartridge holster. Gently press the cartridge into place until you hear a snap. You will have to do this with both the black ink and color ink cartridge if you have a quad-color inkjet printer.
  • Step 4

Close the inkjet cartridge lever by pulling up on the lever. This will secure both cartridges into place.
  • Step 5

Close the front panel of the printer and attempt to print a document to make sure the inkjet cartridges have been properly replaced.
