Puppy House Training Supplies

  • Overview

Because consistency is the key to successful dog training, house training a puppy is a lot easier if you have everything you need right from the start. Here's a list of supplies you might find helpful as you prepare.
  • Potty Rocks

A "potty rock" is a brick scented to encourage your dog to urinate on it. It gives your dog something to aim at and has the added bonus of reminding your dog why you're outside in the first place.

  • Pee pads

Pee pads are absorbent mats designed to soak up urine and keep floors dry. They come in disposable and washable varieties, and some are scented to encourage your dog to use them.
  • Litter boxes

Litter boxes for dogs are larger than those designed for cats and contain absorbent pellets made from paper instead of kitty litter.
  • Grass systems

Grass systems mimic the outdoors while allowing for proper drainage. They usually contain live sod and a collection tray, although some systems utilize fake grass and absorbent pads instead.
  • Dog toilets

A dog toilet is a plastic box with a metal grate on top. The dog stands on the grate, and urine collects in the tray below.
  • Enzyme cleaners

Enzyme cleaners remove dog urine odor from floors and carpets, ensuring that your puppy won't be drawn back to the same spot.
  • Black light

A black light, or UV light, can help you detect traces of dog urine you might have otherwise missed so that your floors and carpets are completely clean.
