How to Process Credit Card Payments in Microsoft Accounting

by Lysis
  • Overview

Microsoft Accounting replaces the old Microsoft Money application. The software is used to record financial transactions for small businesses. Included in the capabilities for the software are the options to charge credit cards. If you have a merchant's account through a banking institution, you can charge credit cards through the Microsoft Accounting application. The charge is done through the software, and it links with the merchant account you have set up in the application.

  • Step 1

Select "New Charge" from the Accounting software. If you have a card swiping machine, you can simply swipe the charge card and Microsoft Accounting automatically starts the credit card charge process.
  • Step 2

Enter the type of transaction. The two options are "Sale" and "Refund." In this case, the type of transaction is a refund. Underneath this selection, enter the amount of the sale.
  • Step 3

Enter the credit card information in the section indicated. The credit card information includes the credit card holder's name, credit card number, type, expiration date and CVV number.
  • Step 4

Enter the billing information in the indicated section. The billing information is used to verify the credit card holder's information. If the billing information does not match, the merchant account system will reject the transaction. Once this information is entered, click the "Next" button.
  • Step 5

View the confirmation screen. If the credit card is authorized, a green "Authorization Approved" signal is displayed. Otherwise, click the back button and try the transaction again.
