How to Print an Online Message on a Brother Fax Machine

Overview

You probably don't need it every day but wouldn't it be nice to know that you can always print, even when you're away from home or office, so long as there's a fax machine nearby? Fortunately, if you can view a message online, you can send it by fax. Using one of several online services, it's easy to use your Brother fax machine as an inexpensive emergency printer back-up.

Step 1

Save the online message to your computer as a .doc (Microsoft Word) or .pdf (Adobe Acrobat) file.
Step 2

Open your Web browser and go to an online fax service website, such as Faxzero.com. This is only one of several available online fax services. This option lets you send one fax at a time, up to two a day, for free if the fax is three pages or less. If you plan to send online faxes regularly, a subscription service might be more cost-effective.
Step 3

Type in your name and fax number in the "Sender Information" and "Receiver Information" boxes, then click "Choose File" and select the .doc or .pdf file you saved on your computer.
Step 4

Type in the Confirmation Code (located just under the "Confirmation Code" text box) and choose "Send Free Fax Now" or "Send $1.99 Fax Now." The Free Fax will have an ad on the cover page. A $1.99 Fax is limited to 15 pages and has no ad.
Step 5

Receive the fax as you would a normal fax. On most Brother fax machines, simply pick up the phone when it rings, press "Start" and hang up the receiver. The exact procedure depends on your model and what receiving mode you have selected.
