Overview
Summer holidays are an ideal time to enjoy the warm weather or go away on vacation with family and friends. The possibilities of where to go and what to do are endless; you may choose to rent a cottage, take a road trip or hop on a plane for an out-of-town adventure. Without advance planning, however, there is the likelihood of some disappointment. Here are some quick steps to help you prepare for the summer holidays by organizing an enjoyable vacation break that is sure to please.

Step 1
Determine when and how much time you will be taking off from work for your summer holidays. Timing plays a large part in booking the logistics of your trip and will affect the availability of flights, car rentals and accommodations.
-
Step 2
Decide if you are taking an adult-only vacation or bringing the children with you. Certain resorts cater only to couples while others, such as Beaches Family Resorts, specialize in family vacations and feature the characters from Sesame Street in their children's activities.
-
Step 3
Narrow down your destination. Spending your summer holidays locally or opting for an out-of-town location will determine whether or not a valid passport is necessary.
-
Step 4
Plan out how you expect to get there. Depending on your destination, a flight may be the only option. Driving can considerably cut down on costs if you are traveling with two to three other people and will ensure that you have a vehicle to use during your stay.
-
Step 5
Have an idea of what you want to do when you arrive. Activities will vary from relaxing on the beach, to participating in outdoor sports to sightseeing in the city. Arrangements can often be made beforehand, and travel brokers can offer sightseeing packages at a discount to add onto to your trip.
-
Step 6
Decide on a budget for your trip. Decrease your holiday expenses by securing a discount rate for group travel or purchasing an all-inclusive vacation package. Many resorts provide attractive rates based on double occupancy and these rates are subject to a single supplement fee if you are traveling alone.
-
Step 7
Do your research. According to an assistant manager at Flight Centre, some locations are ideal to visit during the summer holidays, such as Europe, and others are not, like the Caribbean during their hurricane season that runs from June 1 to November 30.
-
Step 8
Jot down some notes after you have explored the options. This will help you remember pricing and availabilities when you are refining the details of your trip.
