- Playing the Improv Game CoffeehouseIntroduce the game by explaining to your audience that the room is going to become a coffeehouse, complete with poets and hepcats.Stay in character. You are trying to become the host of a coffeehouse poetry session, so use appropriate terminology (e.g. "Groovy") and react to other players as if they were characters, not other actors.Encourage your audience to snap their fingers instead of clapping, when applauding.Ask the audience to suggest a word. Introduce your first poet (for whom you can feel free to make up a name) and explain that she will be reading her poem "[something containing the audience suggestion]." (For example, if the audience suggested "frog", you might say, "Ode to a Grecian frog.")Have the poet perform her poem in coffeehouse style (e.g. using dramatic pauses and attempting to be overly serious).Snap your fingers to applaud the poet and encourage the audience to do the same. Repeat Steps 4 and 5 for a second poet.Thank the audience for coming to your coffeehouse and then bid them goodnight to end the scene.
