  • Overview

Homeowners tend to put a lot of time and resources into redesigning the common areas of a home such as the living or dining room. In the process, kids' bedrooms are sometimes overlooked. When painting a girl's room, you'll have a choice of different color palettes and wall designs suitable for different ages and personalities.

  • Step 1

Complement a feminine decor with light colors such as baby pink or lilac in combination with white accents such as crown molding or wainscoting.
  • Step 2

Provide younger girls with brushes and paint so they can create a mural, such as a celestial scheme or several large elements like flowers and butterflies, on one wall. Paint the remaining walls using one color that is either present in the mural or closely matches one of the mural colors.
  • Step 3

Bring a room to life with a striped "accent" wall. Paint the wall with alternating strips of two feminine colors like hot pink and lime green that together create a visual contrast. Paint the other walls with one of the two colors previously used.
  • Step 4

Use a more sophisticated color palette for a teenage girl's room. Suitable colors include turquoise, dark purple and taupe. Each of these colors can be used on its own or in combination with the others.

  • Apply strips of masking tape to the wall before painting a striped or checkered pattern. The strips should hug the edges of each stripe or checker square, allowing you to paint neat, flawless edges. Peel off the tape after applying the paint.
