What Is OSHA CFR?

by Robert Rubenstein
  • Overview

Title 29 of the Code of Federal Regulations is the legislation governing the U.S. Occupation Safety and Health Act, established in 1970 to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses and death.
  • Staff and Structure

OHSA has more than 2,000 staff employees and more than 1,000 inspectors to regulate a variety of workplaces.

  • How Sites are Chosen for Inspection

The determination of site inspections comes from a tier structure of priorities as well as individual complaints. The top choice for an immediate inspection is one where there is a report of imminent danger. The second priority is to inspect a facility that has reported an injury or death in the workplace. Next in line for inspection are companies with employee complaints or referrals from other government agencies, high reports of injuries and inherently dangerous working conditions due to the nature of the work.
  • Consultation Services

OSHA offers free consultation services to small and medium-size businesses to assist in creating the safest possible working environment.
  • Volumes of Information

The OSHA website has information available to research past findings and current investigations. It also has publications, newsletters and brochures that provide safety tips, editorial opinions and links to rules and regulations.
  • Volunteer

By using the various publications and brochures published by OSHA, a business can audit its operations and evaluate safety procedures to prevent workplace injuries.
