Overview
Watching movies or films at home is a favorite American pastime. Many Americans are opting to stay in and watch new movies at home and avoid the rising costs of movie tickets and popcorn. Being able to see new movies at home used to mean rushing to the local video store, hoping that you would be the first customer in line to pick up that brand-new release. The advent of the internet coupled with the development of country-wide rental chain stores has changed that, making it even easier than ever to enjoy new releases while relaxing on your couch.

Step 1
Decide which movie you would like to watch. If you will be watching it with your partner or other family members, ask them what they want to see. If you need some help, do a quick online search for the terms "new releases." You will see a variety of sites dedicated to reviews of the latest releases. Read the descriptions and choose the ones that suit your mood.
-
Step 2
Choose whether you will rent the film in person at your local movie rental store, stream it online, or rent it from your local rental kiosk at the grocery store.
-
Step 3
Rent the movie. Some chain rental stores will require that you obtain a membership before they will rent you a DVD. Obtaining a membership is quick and easy and, in most cases, simply requires you to present an I.D. If you are renting from a store or kiosk, be sure to note when the movie is due back. If you are streaming the movie online, decide which site to use. Sites such as Netflix, iTunes, and Blockbuster, allow you to download movies legally for a small fee.
-
Step 4
Set a start time. Be sure to finish all last minute household tasks. Turn off your cellphone, make some popcorn, and enjoy!
