How to Mount a Flat Screen TV to a TV Cabinet

by Kristan Hart
  • Overview

Flat screen TV cabinets sit flush up against the wall, allowing you to mount your flat screen TV on the wall in the cabinet in the location of your choice. With the right tools, you can mount a flat screen to a TV cabinet in an afternoon.

  • Step 1

Connect the arms of the mount to the back of your television using the screws and hardware enclosed with the mount.
  • Step 2

Measure the inside of your TV cabinet to find the center. This will help ensure your flat screen TV is centered in the TV cabinet.
  • Step 3

Glide your stud finder against the wall and make notes of stud locations in the wall behind the TV cabinet.
  • Step 4

Hold the mount's wall bracket up against the wall on the back of the TV cabinet, making sure it's center with the notation you made earlier.
  • Step 5

Mark the holes where you will drill your bolts. You will make four markings. On the left side, you'll have a top bolt and a bottom bolt. On the right side, you'll have a top bolt and a bottom bolt. The left bolts will drill into one stud, and the right bolts will drill into another stud. Make sure all bolts drill into a stud, because only securing one side in a stud could cause your flat screen TV to fall. In addition, using Sheetrock anchors is not a substitute for drilling into a stud because they can also cause your flat screen TV to fall.
  • Step 6

Draw a straight line between your top bolt markings to make sure they are level. When mounting a flat screen TV in a TV cabinet, it is very noticeable if the television is even slightly crooked.
  • Step 7

Predrill the four holes where you will insert your bolts. You'll need a small bit on your drill to do this.
  • Step 8

Place the wall bracket up against the wall. Use a bolt driver on your drill to drill the bolts into your predrilled holes. Some instruction manuals recommend you do this with a socket wrench; however, using a bolt driver is an easier and quicker way to accomplish this task.
  • Step 9

Have someone lift one side of the flat screen TV while you lift the other side. Lift the television, hooking the end of the arms onto the wall bracket.
  • Step 10

Swing the bottom of the flat screen TV down so the bottom of the TV meets the bottom portion of the wall mount. Slide the TV right or left to center it in your TV cabinet.
  • Step 11

Secure your television by inserting the security screw in the mount under the TV. This will prevent your flat screen television from swinging up and potentially falling off if it is bumped or tampered with.
