2Anyone whose ever had a child with colic knows how difficult it can be. Colicky babies tend to scream and cry often and for hours at a time. Even the most loving and patient of mothers can easily become overwhelmed because of this. It's at these times that a friendly helping hand is wanted and needed.Photo by Dey Alexander.
- Talk to the new mom. Sometimes new mothers are unsure that they are doing the right thing especially when they have difficult babies because of colic. Offering your help and friendship by just visiting can go a very long way to helping the mom cope.Offer to babysit and give the mom a break for the afternoon or evening. Even if she just stays there and soaks in a hot bubble bath for an hour, or takes a much needed and well deserved nap, it would be greatly appreciated.Share advice with the mom about how you handled your colicky kids, or about an article you may have read on the subject. Let her know that the condition will pass with time and that many new moms and babies go through it.Offer to visit on a regular basis to help with the baby. This will give her the time she needs to get other things done.Offer to run errands for her or help with the housework so she can concentrate fully on the baby.Suggest that if the colic doesn't get any better that she let her pediatrician know. Assure her that she is not bothering the doctor and should take advantage of the doctor's advice and possibly some medicine.
