How to Make a Styrofoam Ball Christmas Tree Decoration

Overview
Creative people often make their own Christmas decorations as well as to give as gifts for others. Creating something from scratch can be entertaining for the entire family, while allowing you to save money for the other necessities of life. Here are ideas for creating a Christmas tree decoration made from recycled Styrofoam balls.

-
Step 1
Decide on the size of Christmas tree that you want. Also settle on a color. Once you have these things decided, you'll know exactly what to look for when you go shop for the craft items.
-
Step 2
Save those tiny to medium sized Styrofoam balls that often come as packaging for a purchased item. Make sure they are broken apart into small pieces no larger than ¼ inch all the way around; smaller if possible.
-
Step 3
Make your purchases at a local craft store. If there is no nearby craft store, you can make the purchases online at Michaels or Hobby Lobby (see Resources).
-
Step 4
Paint the cardboard Christmas tree base in the color of your choice. Make sure that it is thoroughly dry before moving on to the next step.
-
Step 5
Spray adhesive all the way around the Christmas tree base. Be sure that the adhesive is even and appropriately tacky.
-
Step 6
Roll the tree base around in the Styrofoam balls. Make sure that the tree is evenly coated. If holes remain behind, put white glue into the spot and drop in extra Styrofoam balls to fill them up. Let the tree dry thoroughly before moving on to the next step.
-
Step 7
Spray the tree with paint. Be sure to cover all of the white space. It may take two or three coats of paint to accomplish this.
-
Step 8
Using white glue, drop in a few sequins or jewels to accent the tree. You can use items that are in the same color or mix colors together.
-
Step 9
Glue a star on top of the tree. For trees under 12 inches in height, the star should measure around ¾ to 1 inch. For taller trees, use appropriately larger stars.
