How to Make Meat Chili

    Chili and its preparation hold a special place in the hearts of many cooks. This hearty dish has many variations, with different ingredients and preparation methods, and this is even a source of regional pride in many areas. Texas cooks can be especially proud of their meat chili, and this dish is certainly worthy of the title "Texas Chili".
 
  • Step 1

    Brown the sausage, beef, and oninons in a large skillet on medium heat and then drain off the fat.
  • Step 2

    Stir in the tomatoes and tomato sauce along with just the liquid from the kidney beans. Allow it to heat back up to a simmer.
  • Step 3

    Add the ketchup, chili powder, brown sugar, and mustard. Simmer for one hour.
  • Step 4

    Add the kidney beans and then simmer for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Step 5

    Serve in bowls with cheddar cheese sprinkled on top. Enjoy!

  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 2 - 16 ounce cans of tomatoes
  • 1 - 16 ounce can of tomato sauce
  • 2 - 15 ounce cans of kidney beans
  • 1 cup of ketchup
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons of chili powder
  • 4 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons prepared mustard
  • Shredded cheddar cheese
