How to Make Jingle Bell Bookmarks

A jingle bell bookmark is a sweet and simple gift that is ideal for a teacher or a librarian at your child's school. These presents are so easy to make that before you know it, your little one will have turned out 10 or 20, and no one in the surrounding area will ever have any trouble keeping their place in their book again.

Jingle bells on a simple cord make a beautiful, chiming bookmark to hold your place in a favorite book.

Step 1

Cut a length of cord four inches longer than the height of an average book. You should make your bookmark long enough to work in a hard cover book, since most paperbacks are smaller. This will be about 22 inches in most cases, or you can just measure against a book at your house.
Step 2

Use the lighter to melt the ends of the cord. This will prevent unravelling over time. If you are using a ribbon, then you do not need to do this.
Step 3

Thread four jingle bells onto the cord. Knot one end before you begin stringing the bells, and the other once all the bells are on the cord.
Step 4

Arrange the bells so that there is a bell at each end and two in the middle. Lay the cord flat on the table so that you can get the arrangment as precise as possible.
Step 5

Knot the cord so that the two bells in the middle cannot move. You can either tie a small knot on either side of these bells, or double the cord over so that the two end bells are together. Loop the portion of the cord containing the two middle bells so that they cannot escape the area. In the end, you will have two dangling ends, each holding a bell, and two bells together at the "top" of the bookmark. The empty cord between these two groups will fit inside the book so that the bells hang out either side.

A loop khot is the best way to hold the jingle bells in place on your bookmark.
