How to Make an Ice Cream Game

Overview
Ice cream is a year-round treat. It's easy to turn a classic into a game the whole family can play or children can play with friends. This game encourages children's creativity and imagination. The goal is to begin with a half-gallon of plain vanilla. Children add other favorite ingredients, anything from M&Ms to mini pretzels. The winner gets to have his ice cream served at the next family gathering.

Step 1
Have children write down ideas for a new kind of ice cream. They'll all start with one common ingredient: a half-gallon of vanilla ice cream. They can mix into it anything they like, from sweet to salty additions. Encourage them to decide in advance what new flavor of ice cream they want to create and what the added ingredients will be.
-
Step 2
Buy a half-gallon of your child's favorite brand of vanilla ice cream. Let it soften for 15 minutes or so before beginning the next step. Softening the ice cream will make it easier to mix other ingredients smoothly throughout the container.
-
Step 3
Mix in the ingredient(s) you've already listed on paper. Help your child with the job of mixing if the ice cream is still too firm, or soften it further. You can experiment with your creation, adding extra foods to improve the taste even more. Try small pieces of candy, raisins, nuts, jelly beans or other complements. You can start over if you decide you don't like the taste of what you've created so far.
-
Step 4
Once you're happy with the result, choose a topping for your new ice cream flavor. Consider things from sprinkles and chopped nuts to maple syrup or chocolate fudge. Come up with a name for your creation.
-
Step 5
Gather families or participants to sample everyone's new dessert. Serve ice cream in plastic cone-shaped dishes or other fancy dish. Have everyone vote for their favorite flavor. Chances are there will be no clear-cut winner, but that's the point--to create new dishes everyone enjoys.
-
Step 6
Serve your child's dessert creation at an upcoming family dinner.
