How to Make a Fan Out of Lemon Tree Leaves
by Rebecca Romero
-
Wipe the leaves down with a damp cloth if you picked them from an outdoor tree.
-
Dry the leaves gently with a soft cloth.
-
Use the scissors to trim the stems from the leaves. Dry any liquid that may seep out.
Assemble the Fan
-
Glue the two half circles together at the top inch of the tongue depressor or fan handle, with the flat sides pointing down.
-
Glue five to six lemon leaves in a fan pattern with the top tips pointing up using the half circle as a guide.
-
Glue seven to eight lemon leaves to the back of the first layer of leaves. This second row of leaves should protrude no higher than 2 1/2 inches from behind the first row.
-
Turn the fan over and repeat steps two and three once all the hot glue has cooled.
Add the Trimmings
-
Glue the plastic gems to the top of the fan handle, where the bottoms of the first layer of leaves meet.
-
Put a dab of hot glue on the base of the fan handle, 2 inches from the bottom. Here, tack the center point of the length of satin ribbon.
-
Wrap the ribbon ends around the fan handle down to the bottom, tacking with hot glue as you go.
-
Knot in the ribbon ends and trim.

- Try coordinating the colors in the gems and the ribbons.
You may try using cameos, decorative buttons, or metallic cabochons instead of plastic gems.
