- Find an appropriate container, bag or box to use as an emergency first aid kit. Make sure that the box is properly labeled as an emergency first aid kit.Show the box to everyone living in your household. Explain what it is, what it will be used for, what is in it, and where it will be stored.Put all of the first aid contents into the box.Keep the box in a safe place that will be easily accessible in an emergency. If your family has an emergency area, such as a basement, where you keep extra water and a radio, then that might be a good place to keep your emergency first aid kit.Review the contents of your first aid kit periodically to make sure that it has everything that you need. For example, if you have a baby, then you might need to add infant medications. If an elderly relative comes to live with you, then you might need to add additional prescription medications.
