How to Make a Christmas Tea Party

by Jenn Mercer
  • Overview

Although tea parties are typically associated with springtime and garden parties, they adapt easily to other seasons. Try moving your tea party indoor and swap your garden hat for a Santa hat. A Christmas tea party combines the magic of the Christmas season with the simple pleasures of a cup of tea. Take these steps as suggestions and feel free to change any of them to make your own new holiday tradition. Enjoy a moment of peace and tranquility in the middle of the busy holiday season.

  • Step 1

Select your tea. This could be tea labeled specifically as Christmas tea or any spiced tea, cinnamon tea, mint tea or even a simple black tea.
  • Step 2

Decorate your table with boughs of holly, strings of gold beads and spare Christmas ornaments. Let children help out by making papaer snowflakes to adorn the table.
  • Step 3

Light red and green pillar candles or add votives to your table. Make sure to keep these away from the decorations and out of the reach of small children.
  • Step 4

Invite friends, coworkers and relatives, or simply celebrate with those visiting for the holidays. A Christmas tea party can be a good setting for a secret Santa gift exchange.
  • Step 5

Make or buy Christmas cookies to accompany your tea party. If you would like something more substantial, you can add ham or roast beef sandwiches.
  • Step 6

Play Christmas carols or classical music in the background. Make sure that the volume is not so loud that it interferes with conversation.
  • Step 7

Boil water for tea and add to teapot along with tea leaves or tea bags. Allow tea to steep for two to three minutes.
  • Step 8

Serve tea and garnish with cinnamon sticks. Allow guests to add milk and sugar to taste.

  • Consider making hot cider for children or for anyone who does not like tea. Add a pot of water with potpourri or mulling spices to the stove in order to add to the atmosphere.
