How to Make Chocolate Fondue in a Chafing Dish

by Yvette Sajem
  • Overview

There's an old saying, "Everything old is new again." In that vein, fondue, that staple of 1960s dinner parties, has blasted back from the past in a big way. And it's a good thing -- fondue parties are easy to prepare for and a deliciously entertaining way for you and your guests to spend an evening. Chocolate fondue, especially, is a gooey indulgence that can be enjoyed by adults and kids alike. Sound like fun? If you don't have a fondue pot, no need to rush out and find one -- a simple chafing dish will work just fine.

  • Step 1

Pour 1-1/2 cups heavy cream into a medium saucepan. Heat over medium heat until cream reaches a low boil. Remove from heat.
  • Step 2

Add 2-1/2 cups finely chopped milk chocolate or dark chocolate to the cream. Stir briefly and let it sit for five minutes.
  • Step 3

Whisk the cream and chocolate until thoroughly combined.
  • Step 4

Add 2 teaspoons vanilla or almond extract. Whisk to evenly distribute.
  • Step 5

Pour the chocolate fondue into your chafing dish, then place the dish in its stand and cover it. Light a can of chafing fuel and place it under the chafing dish. Keep the fondue covered until you are ready to serve.
  • Step 6

Surround your fondue with the dippers of your choice. Suggestions: Nuts, fresh or dried fruit, pound cake or angel food cake squares, brownie bites, pretzels or potato chips.
  • Step 7

Give each of your guests a small plate and a seafood fork for dipping (bamboo skewers also will work).
