How to Make a Book Cover Out of Newspaper
by Deborah H. Schreiben

Overview
Many schools require that students protect their textbooks with covers. A very easy and cheap way to do this is by covering them with newspaper. Black-and-white newsprint with a startling headline creates an edgy look, while a fun, decorative cover can be made by using the color comics section often found in Sunday papers. The book could be positioned over the newspaper so that the print is horizontal, but for a different look, lay the book on an angle so the print covers the book diagonally.

Step 1
Open the book and position it over a piece of newspaper so the front cover is over the section that you want to see when the book is closed.
-
Step 2
Measure 4 inches beyond all edges of book when it is open. Draw lines and cut newspaper along these lines.
-
Step 3
With the book centered on the newspaper, fold the top and bottom of the newspaper over to make it the height of the book.
-
Step 4
Fold the front edge of the folded newspaper over the front cover of the book. Slip book cover inside the flap created.

Slip book cover into flaps created by folding newspaper.

Step 5
Close the book and then fold the back of the newspaper over the back cover of the book. Slip back cover into the flap created.
