by Shelly Schumacher
-
Overview
Vinyl swimming pools offer an economical way to enjoy a pool without erecting a permanent structure. In addition to being very easy to set up, they are also quite simple to maintain. However, like any other pool, this maintenance is an on-going job throughout the summer months. It requires a few minutes each day to ensure the pool stays in proper working order. Only with regular care will you be able to enjoy your vinyl pool for years to come.

Step 1
Monitor the vinyl in the pool for leaks and tears. Repair any holes with a vinyl patching kit.
-
Step 2
Maintain the proper chemical levels for the amount of water in your pool. Check the chemical levels daily with a test kit. Add appropriate amounts as recommend by the manufacturer to reduce bacteria and algae build up in your pool.
-
Step 3
Put a chlorine floater in your pool to keep chlorine at the appropriate level.
-
Step 4
Maintain the pool ladder by examining all screws for tightness. In addition, make sure plastic molded steps and feet are in good condition and free from cracks and chips.
-
Step 5
Skim the top of the pool with a skimmer net to remove any bugs, leaves or other debris from the water's surface.
-
Step 6
Vacuum the bottom of pool regularly using the equipment that came with your pool. You can also purchase this equipment separately from a pool store or online retailer.
-
Step 7
Clean out the water intake screen to remove any grass, bugs or other debris that may have accumulated on the outside surface.
-
Step 8
Maintain the pool pump by changing the filter weekly. In addition, check it daily to ensure it is in proper working order.
-
Step 9
Always cover your pool when it is not in use to prevent debris from settling on the bottom.
