How to Maintain Stainless Steel Appliances

Overview
Stainless steel appliances are beautiful but only if they are properly maintained. While at first you might think that stainless steel is impermeable, in reality it can easily be scratched or dulled. Fortunately, by using the right cleaning resources, you can keep your stainless steel appliances in good shape with little effort.

Step 1
Wipe down the surfaces of the stainless steel. Using white vinegar mixed with hot water in a spray bottle will prevent your stainless steel appliance from picking up mineral deposits from your tap water. Wipe down the appliance with a cleaning rag. Go with the "grain" if you can see it.
-
Step 2
Disinfect all surfaces. Wipe the stainless steel with hydrogen peroxide and a cleaning cloth. If you see there are black spots in the stainless steel or chunks of food stuck to the surface, use the plastic scrubbing sponge to remove them. Add more hydrogen peroxide if necessary.
-
Step 3
Polish the stainless steel with baby oil. The baby oil will restore shine and fix cracks and scratches.
-
Step 4
Clean your stainless steel once a week. Wiping it down and polishing will keep it from tarnishing or getting dull.
