How to Maintain Peace Before, During and After a Crisis

Inner peace is realized as an internal state of being, regardless of external circumstances. When you experience a crisis, minor or global, your mind, body, heart and soul can react in a myriad of ways. If you handle stress well, then you are more likely to process the critical event and healthily manage your reactions. If you externalize your sense of peace and well-being, then the situation may create dramatic, non-productive responses. Maintaining peace before, during and after a crisis can be achieved through a daily practice of self-awareness, gratitude and soulful connections with positive people and environments.

Step 1
Express gratitude every day. Record in your journal all of the people, places, objects or experiences you are thankful for. From the air that you breathe to the socks on your feet, show humility and be grateful for where you have been, where you are now, and where you would like to see yourself in the future.

Acknowledge the blessings in disguise. When you routinely open yourself to receive the underlying message or intend to see the silver lining during times of stress, you can discover the purpose and order within the situation. Although retrospection can help you gain clarity and detach from further drama, allow yourself to view the occurrence compassionately and insightfully before and while it transpires.

Develop a spiritual practice. Daily prayer, meditation, journaling or reflection can strengthen your sense of inner peace as you surrender your ego and align with a higher wisdom. Reading inspirational books and watching spiritual cinema can also motivate you to shift your perspective from a victim consciousness to one that is more empowered and accountable for personal thoughts, feelings and actions.

Establish healthy support systems. Trustworthy friends, family members, pastors or those pursuing a spiritual journey can be instrumental in helping you recover from slight or even detrimental circumstances. You can also enlist the help of God, the angels or other spirit guides by asking them to surround the situation with love, light and healing for all involved.

Connect with nature and animals. Bonding with your pet or reconnecting with the outdoors can provide stress relief, return you to the present moment and heal your aching soul. Furthermore, you can incorporate the elements of earth, air, fire, water and ether into a healing visualization. For example, imagine the ocean washing away your sadness or the flames of a large fire transforming your fears into love and power.
