2Twenty years ago, people balked at buying bottled water. Nowadays, there are so many kinds of bottled water on the market a person cannot find just plain water anymore. Knowing what to look for when buying bottled water can make picking out bottled water much easier.
- Read the label on the bottle. This is where all of the important information is located.Find the name of the product in the bottle on the front of the label. Read all of the fine print. Many products are disguised as “water beverages,” “flavored water,” and "enhanced water” or otherwise. These types of products contain more than just water.Look for a source of water statement. This tells you where the water actually comes from like a spring, lake, glacier, tropical rainfall, or other. This statement is different from the distributor clause which says who is selling the water.Check that the product name is spring water, glacier water, artesian water or something similar.Try to find a Nutrition Facts box on the label. Most pure bottled waters do not have them. If the bottle label does not have a Facts box, it is just water. If the bottle has one, the product in the bottle may not be just water.Look for an ingredient listing on the label, which is usually below the Nutrition Facts box. If the product in the bottle is not just water, this is the place where you can find out what else is in it.To buy water with added vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, look for a bottled water beverage, which is usually near the regular bottled waters. Read the ingredients for hidden items in the water like caffeine, taurine, artificial sweeteners and other additives.Buy the bottled water that is clear and not colored. The presence of color indicates the product is not just water or that the actual container is tinted a certain color.Compare the cost of buying bottled water versus installing a water purifier or treatment at the tap. It may be less expensive to install the home system.
