Laser treatment can play a key role in both removing hair and stimulating hair growth in women. With only a few visits to a laser hair removal center, body hair can be history. Lasers can also promote hair growth in balding women.
  • Hair Removal

According to the Hair Removal Journal, laser hair removal "is accomplished by producing heat in the hair, which is transferred to the hair follicle, which in turn produces inflammation, and this inflammation sends a signal to the hair follicle to go into the resting (telogen) phase."

  • Treatment Areas

You can have laser treatment done on any part of your body except near your eyes. Common areas for women are the legs, bikini area, face, arm pits, and arms.
  • Time Frame and Cost

Complete hair removal will take three to five visits spaced out over four to eight weeks depending on the hair location. In 2009, the average cost per session was $350.
  • Considerations

Dark hair is easier to treat, especially if it's coarse. Blonde or gray may not respond at all. Women with darker skin will need more treatments than light-skinned women. Also, having a tan can cause side affects like blistering or discoloration.
  • Lasers for Hair Loss

In 2007, the FDA approved low laser therapy (LLT) for promoting hair growth as well. The body absorbs the light energy and transforms it into chemical energy, which helps increase the healing rate of tissue.
