Computer programmers have the job to test, write, produce and maintain computer programs. These programs are filled with specific instructions written in special languages or codes that computers can understand and operate on. The instructions tell the computers to perform tasks that are assigned to them within the code.

Try to take as many math and computer courses as possible, especially programming courses while in high school.

Obtain a bachelor's degree, which can take up to four years to complete. Small companies could accept someone with a two- or three-year diploma. Although there isn't any specific academic qualifications that are needed to become a programmer, most employers expect job applicants to have a certain level of education.

Get involved in placement. These programs assist students in shadowing an individual in this field and help them gain experience in it. You can also put this experience on your resume.

Become certified the program languages of C++ or Java. A wide range of certification programs are available, many by professional associations and software companies. Although it's not mandatory to get a certificate, it will stand out on your resumé.
