Italian Restaurants in Greenwich, CT

by Contributing Writer
  • As both Connecticut and New England's southernmost city, Greenwich shares many cultural and historical ties to nearby Long Island and New York City. In 2005, CNN and Money Magazine gave the town the No. 12 spot on their annual "100 Best Places to Live" report. Given the region's rich history as a beacon for immigrants from southern Europe, it should surprise no one that that Greenwich is home to a number of Italian restaurants.

  • The Little Italian Restaurant

True to its name, the Little Italian is a cozy eatery housed in a charming brick building in Greenwich's Byram neighborhood. The menu, while offering few surprises (one notable exception being the salmon and goat cheese pizza), thoroughly covers the favorites, from manicotti to chicken cacciatore. Catering services and a 20-seat, semi-private dining room are also available. The Little Italian Restaurant 228-230 Mill St. Greenwich, CT 06830 203-531-7500 greenwichtlir.com

  • Pasta Vera

Specializing in takeout and large orders, Pasta Vera has been feeding busy Greenwich families for over two decades. Dining in, however, also has its perks: namely a compact, yet well-rounded wine menu. Lunchtime diners in search of a different spin on the usual fare can sink their teeth into Pasta Vera's answer to the patty melt, the hamburger panini. • Polpo

While few Italian menus would be complete without the requisite fried calamari appetizer, Polpo--Italian for "octopus"--lets its namesake cephalopod share the limelight. In fact, one could build an entire meal around the "polpo," selecting the octopus salad or carpaccio as a lead-in to the risotto con polpo (octopus over rice). Diners keen to pamper or impress can plunk down for the $125 Kobe shell steak. Polpo 554 Old Post Road #3 Greenwich, CT 06830 203-629-1999 polporestaurant.com
  • Terra of Greenwich

Billing itself as a "New York City-style" restaurant (translation: classy), Terra uses traditional Italian cuisine as a launching point for its selection of elegant, upscale dishes. While diners won't find marsala or parmigiana among the entrees, they'll likely be too intrigued by the veal chop with red onion confit, shaved daikon, and baby arugula to notice what's missing. Tuesday is Wine Appreciation Night, during which all bottles under $100 go for 50 percent off. Terra of Greenwich 156 Greenwich Ave. Greenwich, CT 06830 203-629-5222 terraofgreenwich.com/about.htm
