International Grants for Women in Media

Several sources of international grants for women in media exist. This list includes specific grants for women in the media and also grants for organizations led by women. While the grants for organizations are not targeted only to media work, women in media could benefit or be paid by those grants if working for or with the organization receiving such a grant.

The Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship
The fellowship is available to women journalists, including freelancers, whose work focuses on human rights and social justice. Each fellowship is individually tailored, with the research part based at the Center for International Studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the journalism at The Boston Globe or The New York Times.

American Association of University Women International Fellowships
These fellowships are available for study in the United States for women who are not U.S. citizens or residents. The fellowships support work on master's degrees or doctorates or for professional work. They are not limited to work in the media field.

The Global Fund for Women
This fund supports organizations outside the United States that are governed and directed by women with a commitment to women's equality. The grants are not aimed at individuals in media, though the funds could support a women in the media working with or for the organization that receives funds.

International Women's Program Grants
These grants are for organizations that make proposals to help promote and protect the rights of women and girls where the rule of law is absent due to conflict. While the grants are for organizations, individuals in the media working for or with such organizations could benefit from the grants. See comminit.com for more information.
