Instructions for Setting a Casio Dress Watch

by Will Guzzardi
  • Overview

Casio was originally founded in 1946 as an electric calculator company. In subsequent decades it diversified into printers, computers and in 1974 it released its first wristwatch. Watches now account for a significant portion of its product line that now includes cell phones, musical instruments, projectors, cash registers and more. There are many models of Casio Dress watches, but all have similar functionality and can be set in similar ways.
  • Determining Your Model

In order to find the most specific information about your watch, you'll need to know exactly what model Casio you own. Turn the watch over and look for the "module number" on the reverse side of the case. This is a three- or four-digit number located near the center of the reverse of the case. The module number will allow you to determine which type of Casio Dress watch you own.

  • Setting the Date and Time

The method for setting the time is the same for all Casio Dress watches. Wait until the second hand reaches 12 o'clock, then pull the crown out as far as it will go. The second hand should stop, indicating that the watch is ready to be set. Turn the crown until the watch shows the current time (consult the U.S. Atomic Clock or other similar source), then push the crown back in all the way so that the second hand begins to move. Many Dress watches also have date settings. This can be set by pulling the crown out halfway to the first setting, then turning it until the appropriate time shows. Avoid setting the date between the hours of 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., as the watch may not turn the date over properly the next day.
  • Other Settings

A few Casio Dress watches have additional settings, many of which are digital functions, including a thermometer or a second time zone setting. To find out about your particular model, go to the Casio website's support section and enter the module number.
