Instructions for Detergent Dough

by Roxanne McHenry
  • Overview

Detergent dough is a homemade children's clay made from ingredients most families have around the house. The basic dough uses laundry soap flakes mixed with water to make a soapy clay you can color with food coloring. You can also make a dough from liquid dishwashing detergent mixed with flour and salt for a soft dough. These doughs are not safe to eat because of the detergents, so use an edible dough recipe for toddlers and small children instead.
