How to Inform Employers About Distance Learning Courses
by Alexandra Romanov

Overview
Distance education courses make it possible for you to continue your education without having to take time off from work or family obligations to attend classes in person. You can further your education and your career at the same time. In many cases, an employer will subsidize such coursework, so check with your company to see which courses qualify. Even when the company does not subsidize the classes, you still could benefit from letting your employer know that you have completed classes that pertain to your job.

Step 1
Talk to your Human Resources manager before you enroll in a class to see what continuing education opportunities are available or inform the company that you are planning to take a class. Provide any documentation you have about the course and inquire about continuing education subsidies.
-
Step 2
Provide copies of documents that verify successful completion of the courses to your HR manager. Take a copy of your updated resume and request that it be added to your personnel file.
-
Step 3
Tell your direct supervisor. Provide him or her with copies of the same documents you provided to HR.
