Overview
With the release of the Windows Vista operating system, Microsoft began including Windows Mail as its free email and contact software program and stopped using Outlook Express (OE). Over the years, many computer users have become dependent on OE. Since Microsoft will no longer support OE or include it with future operating systems, many users may want to import data such as their address book into Windows Mail.
-
-
Step 1
Export your address book from Outlook Express (OE) so that it can be imported into Windows Mail. Open OE and click on the "File" command. Select "Export" and then "Address Book."
-
Step 2
Click on "Text File (Comma Separated Values)" when the Address Book Export Tool opens and then press the "Export" button.
-
Step 3
Click on "Browse" and select a location for your address book file that you will remember. Write down the path, folders, and directory if necessary. Click the "Save" button.
-
Step 4
Click to place check marks in the boxes next to the fields that you want to save. If in doubt, check all the boxes to ensure you do not lose any data. Click on "Finish."
-
Step 5
Import your address book into Windows Mail. Open the program and click on the "File" command at the top of the window. From the drop down menu that appears, select "Import," and then "Windows Contacts."
-
Step 6
Select the first option available in the "Import to Windows Contacts" window. It will be labeled "CSV (Comma Separated Values)." Click on the "Import" button.
-
Step 7
Click the "Browse" button and locate the file where you exported your OE address book. Click "Open " and then "Next."
-
Step 8
Select the fields you wish to import (or select all of them.) Click "Finish." Your address book will be available in Windows Mail.
