How to Identify Paintball Guns

by Contributing Writer
  • Overview

Paintball is a sport that recently has become popular among the adventurous people in the world. It began in the 1970s and has taken off since then and is played in more than 40 countries by millions of people. Paintball uses tanks of carbon dioxide, nitrogen or compressed air to create pressure in the gun that allows it to shoot balls of paint at the people participating. Guns come in all different shapes, colors, sizes and power. The characteristics listed below are used to distinguish between different types of guns.

  • Step 1

Determine if the gun has the ability to switch shooting styles. Newer guns have three or four settings that allow them to shoot one ball at a time, three at a time or automatically at a constant rate. If the gun has this ability, it was probably made in the past 15 years. If it doesn't have that ability, it was most likely built before that.
  • Step 2

Look at the finish of the gun. Some styles of paintball guns are dull and usually just black, such as the Tippmann guns. Other paintball guns are designed in interesting shapes and have bright, shiny colors, such as the Spyder guns.
  • Step 3

Check out the barrel on the gun. Some guns, like Brass Eagle paintball guns, use a big hole on the barrel of the gun, the spot where the ball shoots out of. It looks like an extension because it is about 2 inches long and it is right on the end of the barrel. Brass Eagle seems to be one of the only types of paintball gun that uses this device.
  • Step 4

Examine the length of the barrel. Dangerous Power paintball guns have a longer barrel than the competition. It seems to be about 2 to 3 inches longer than most guns, and it looks to be the only gun with this unusual length of the barrel.
  • Step 5

Make sure there is only one color made out of the base of the gun and of the barrel. If there are two colors, one for the base of the gun and one different color for the barrel, there is a chance that it is in Angel paintball gun. They typically use a color for the base and then either use a different color for the barrel or use a different, unusual design.

  • Never point the gun at your face when examining it, even if there is no air tank connected to it.
